How to put heat transfer vinyl on a shirt

Learn how to make pattern on T-shirts with Heat Transfer Vinyl! If you are not familiar with vinyl, you may be a little overwhelmed, but this step-by-step guide will teach you the exact information on how to use heat transfer vinyl, and you will soon make your own T-shirt!

Prepare materials in advance

  • Heat Transfer Vinyl
  • T-Shirt
  • Weeding Tool
  • Teflon Sheet
  • SVG-Butterfly (You can get our SVG for free via email us)
  • Cutting Machine & Easy Press

Prepare some HTV vinyl sheets of navy blue, yellow, red, black and white, ( I used the color I like. You can also choose the color you like). Cut them into suitable size. Use Cricut to cut HTV. Load your heat transfer vinyl into your machine, shiny side down. Upload your design into your software then MIRROR IT and hit CUT. Then weed the extra vinyl.

Be careful when weeding. Don’t weed the wrong part! ( I made such mistake once TAT)

Weed away the excess HTV Vinyl

Next put this pattern that you finish weeding on your t-shirt. I chose the back. I think it works out better than the front side. Heat it with an iron. It’s okay if you use a heat press. I don’t prefer it.( Especially recommend our mini iron

Apply the design to your T-shirt with a heat press

Then weed the tape on the top. It’s very hot at the beginning. So don’t get hurt by it. Don’t weed it too fast to avoid destroying the pattern. I almost did it TAT.

Now complete them one by one! All you have to do is to wear your T-shirt and accept everyone's compliments. Now go and follow the steps to try to make your own T-shirt!
